New Phone
I really want a new cell phone. I totally wasted my "new every two" upgrade at Christmas last year because the phone I got broke and then the replacement I got also broke. The second of which was totally my fault.
I'm just such a techno geek and I love
electronics so the new touch screen phones and full keyboard phones are just too cool for me to ignore. I'm hoping that I can work something out so that when my wife upgrades her phone I can somehow get a new one as well. That would be nice, but I really doubt that it is going to work out. More than likely I will just have to tough it out with my borrowed phone until next year sometime.
Cool but not totally necessary
Have you ever bought or wanted something that you thought was really cool but not necessary enough to warrant a purchase? Ipod's fit into this category for me. Beyond the tiny shuffle player I own, I don't really have a need for an ipod with a giant storage capacity. I can't even fill up the 1 gig that my shuffle holds.
There are other things as well like those
rain guards for windshields. It's really cool to watch the water stream off your window and they do work really well, but I just never seem to be willing to pay for that nicety. What else can you think of that is cool but you don't find yourself buying for whatever reason?
Technological Dinosaurs
Do you ever look at a piece of technology and think, "Buddy your time has come and gone". Tape players, vcrs etc fit into this category. Now
digital camcorders and cameras may be warming up for their swan song as well.
When you consider how many cell phones include both as part of their normal accessories, it's only a matter of time until your phone is as good as if not better than your hand held version. Why would you go get the digital camera when the one in your phone is better, and has instant access to flickr and facebook?
What else may be nearing it's end?
New Basement
We can't wait to finish the basement at our house. It will probably be a couple of years before we do it but it will definitely get done in the near future. Frankly, it was one of the main reasons we bought this house.
The biggest expense is going to be having windows put in the bedrooms down there so that we are up to code. We found a great
glass tile place that can do it relatively cheaply assuming that the minimum option will work for us. We'll have to explore that more later.
Right now the girls are still sharing a room so I hope that we can get this done soon. I don't want to make them wait forever to have their own rooms.
I Wonder
I have no idea if this is possible but it just popped into my head. I wonder if there is any way that a pro athlete can get
disability insurance to cover him if he gets hurt and can't collect his paycheck?
I'm sure said insurance would be very high in cost given athletic contracts and the risk level of an athlete getting hurt but I wonder if anyone has ever tried it? My guess is no because I can't see a way that the insurance company could consistently turn a profit and frankly I've never heard of any such thing and I listen to a lot of sports talk radio.
A curious thought though. It's hard to tell what people might try to pull off.
Bleck
For the last month, I haven't done the best job of eating well. I have allowed many a nasty thing into my diet that I wouldn't normally and now I'm sick. Small wonder why. I haven't skipped many workouts but as they say, you can't outwork a bad diet. So true it appears.
Now, I haven't gained a bunch of weight. Maybe a pound or two but I'm definitely not looking into the latest in apparel to cover my massive bulk or anything. Still this cold is a pretty solid wake up call when it comes to eating right. You don't have to be perfect all the time, but you do have to be perfect most of the time. Half of the time ain't gonna get it done.
Phone Patience
I feel like I am a lot more patient than some when talking to people who work in call centers. Usually I give them the benefit of the doubt unless they are really rude to me for no reason. Why? Because I used to work for one of those call center services. Let me tell you, 80 irate people yelling at me everyday for a year and a half was not the most fun I've ever had. Just think about that. I had 80 people a day, call and yell at me. I was the point man for their fury over what my company had done to them. I was the one thrown to the wolves as the execs sat behind their mahogany desks and counted their Benjamins. Remember that the next time you call somewhere with a question about your bill.
Weird Society
If I told you that you would happily pay for something that you never use, and not only that, but that if someone told you that you might have to use it, it would frighten you, you'd probably think I was nuts. (or that I need to work on my run on sentences) Either way, you probably wouldn't be thinking of you
home insurance.
It is completely necessary but it is sometimes interesting to look at things from a totally different perspective just to be sure that you aren't falling prey to some societal subliminal magic.
In this case we're not, but can you think of a case in which turning things on their head mentally like this changed your mind about something?
Couch
We really need new living room furniture. It's not something that I ever think about really but my wife really wants it and frankly, she's right. Our stuff is old and torn up and just not getting it done anymore. Frankly, our chair is starting to smell like
fat burning.
We went to a local furniture store the other day. Most of their stuff was on sale, but that still meant that it cost far more than we were prepared to spend.
Our next plan of attack is to check on craig's list. There are a lot of people that buy new furniture all the time and sell their barely used stuff to people like us. Most of the time they are just happy to have someone else carry it out so they sell it cheap. Hopefully we will be able to find something that works.
