No You're Not

I was having a conversation with a friend yesterday when then subject of bungee jumping came up. I said that I didn't think I could ever do it because I'm too afraid of heights. He said he was afraid of heights too but also said that not only has he done it but he used to have a job working for a bungee company and his job was to jump first to quell the fears of the customers and get things rolling.

Let me just say this. No you're not. Clearly you aren't afraid of heights.

The jitters you might feel are nothing compared to the debilitating annoyance that strikes me when I get up too high. To be fair, I will ride most roller coasters because they are easy to commit to on the ground and there is nothing to do but go through with it once you are in the seat. I love the speed and thrill of them but I have to overcome my fear of heights every time. Some might say that even I don't qualify based on that.

So that got me wondering, how many people "think" that they have a fear of something when what they are feeling is really nothing compared to people that are really afraid of it. It might make most of us guys a little nervous moving around in the dark at home when you've heard a strange noise, but that's nothing to the fear that a college girl living alone would probably feel in the same situation. So the next time you say "I'm afraid of _____. Take a second to stop and think. Are you really?
