Not Informed

I like to believe that there aren't that many topics on which I could carry on an intelligent conversation. Sure, I realize that there are plenty of things on which I am not well versed, such as Chinese politics, Australian rules football, and ephedra diet pills, but for the most part I pride myself on being up to date on a wide variety of things in the public consciousness.

I like to feel like I have something to add to a conversation and I feel good when it ranges to a topic on which I have done some reading and have an opinion. It just makes it all that more fun to keep learning.

Stress

Stress can affect people in a number of ways. It has been found that it can be a far greater cause of a lot of health problems than most people think. Taking time out to relieve that stress can not only help you feel better now, but improve your health for later.

Why is it that your hair is always associated with stress, hair loss due to stress and gray hair due to stress are cliches we've all heard for years. I wonder how much truth there really is to them?

So if you are bald, or gray, or both perhaps you need to spend a little more time working on yourself and relieving stress. ;)

Supplements

If someone where to ask me what the very best weight loss dietary supplement was, I would tell them protein. If you are working out a lot and eating plenty of protein, then you are putting high octane gas into your engine.

The key is to get your resting metabolism as high as possible. You don't burn that many calories during your actual workout but if you can raise your resting metabolic rate, then you will burn more calories 24 hours a day. The combination of the two works great.

Natural

I like to do things naturally whenever possible. I know that there are plenty of options out there but I'm not the type that would buy diet pills online. Personally I prefer to try to get my best results with diet changes and exercise.

I have gone back and forth over the years between cardio style workouts and strength training and I really want to get to the point where I am doing both. My hope is to get to the point where I am doing something almost every day in different areas of exercise.

Cloverfield

I finally watched this movie. When it first came out someone told me that it wasn't all that good so despite my initial enthusiasm, I never watched it.

Turns out it is a really good movie. I enjoyed it a ton. I'm really hoping that the rumors of a sequel are true. I could see a lot of cool places that they could take this idea.

So, lesson learned, don't listen to other people, or at least don't give their opinions quite so much weight. ;)

Work

I really do like my job. No, I'm not a pro athlete, actor, or CEO but I still really enjoy what I do. I know that there are a lot of people out there that dread going to work everyday, so that helps me to realize how blessed I am.

I don't have to deal with angry customers, or lift heavy loads all day, or constantly work on meaningless boring tasks that cause my brain to atrophy. I like what I do and I enjoy the people here and I get to do fun things. What more could you want, realistically.

The Big Short

I'm reading a great book right now called "The Big Short". It's about the subprime mortgage collapse of the last few years that is more or less responsible for the recession we are currently enjoying. I was a bit worried that I would not be able to understand all the terminology or keep up with the jargon but so far so good. Still probably couldn't follow medicare supplement plans but so far the book hasn't covered anything like that.

It's fascinating to learn that there were a scant few that figured out what was going on and found a way to bet against it and thus made a ton of money.

Free Speech

I read somewhere today that in some countries, American travelers are tricked into saying things that violate laws. We are used to free speech here so it is fairly easy to trick someone into saying something in another country that could get you into some pretty hot water. One guy claimed to have found spy equipment in his hotel room. Getting caught on wireless cctv cameras does not sound fun. So be careful out there and keep your opinions to yourself overseas, or you may be getting a local tour you don't want.

Authors and Money

I wonder how many authors make money. For one thing, not a lot of people buy new books compared to the number that check them out from the library or buy them used. Plenty of people sell used books so it stands to reason that the copies sold doesn't even come close to the number of people that actually read the book. In any other industry this would be an outrage that would not be stood for, but this practice has sort of been grandfathered in as a traditional way to get books.
Do you think that Pizza Hut would be fine if only half of the people that actually ate a pizza from them actually paid for it?
