I read something recently that changed my way of thinking just a bit. Most of us have heard at one time or another that the best natural fat burner is muscle. Therefore, if we pack on more muscle we will lose fat in the process.To a degree that is true, but you only have to switch over to ESPN2 on a weekday afternoon and watch the strongman competition to realize that muscle isn't a golden ticket to low body fat.
Yes muscle will increase your metabolism which will help in your overall fight to lose fat, but lifting super heavy all the time in order to gain muscle is counterproductive because in order to actually gain a lot of muscle you will need to eat like a horse and not all of those calories will make it into muscle tissue. So yes, train for strength and muscle gain, but don't let that be your only fat loss strategy.
