Viva The Sword

"I'll take swords for $500 Alex" I still laugh at that line.

So does whoever owns the Excalibur Las Vegas. If I was them, I'd have Sean Connery sponsor me and use that line is some cleverly annoying way so as to make anyone who ever thinks of las vegas to think of that line and then subsequently the Excalibur.

That kind of "funny the first time but now it's annoying and I can't get it out of my head" advertising seems to work well for most companies so I don't know why they haven't thought of it yet.

Perhaps they will read this and then get to work. You never know.

Out Of Place

Have you ever wondered how much traveling those advertising pens must do? How many times have you found one at a bank with "Mike's Towing" on it and wondered how it got there? Sometimes the find is even funny, such as finding a liquor store pen at the church. I'm sure I'm the only person that thinks things like this are funny but you have to laugh at the little things sometimes. In any case, pay closer attention and you just might get a good laugh today.

College?

I sometimes wonder what I was thinking. It's all turned out well but why in the world didn't I choose to go to college somewhere nice like California of Hawaii? Perhaps if I knew the cost of West Palm Beach real estate I would have been pleased with my decision, who knows. I like it here in the midwest but I had the chance to go a lot of different places and didn't take it. Not that I would trade what I have now for anything, I just have to wonder what I was thinking. It doesn't seem like I made a very smart choice. :)

Low Times on the fitness front

Things haven't been good lately. I can't lift, which means I have to food willpower and I'm just getting more and more out of shape every day. Hopefully this will all end soon as I have a couple of doctor's appointments that I'm hoping will put me in the clear to get back into the gym. I'm ready to be back as I miss it a lot. I still don't want any crazy Miracle burn pills or anything like that but I'm definitely losing ground on my goals. I think it might be wiser for me to stop trying to be a chiseled out dude and just focus on enjoying exercise and know that I'm keeping myself healthy.

Matt and The Chocolate Factory

At church the other night, I was helping out with the teens as I tend to do, and we were talking about a friend of ours (Matt) whose wife is in the hospital right now, and about how the teens could get involved and help them out in different ways. One of the other adult helpers mentioned that he had already volunteered to help with one aspect because of his great weakness which was that they have a chocolate lab.

This caused some confusion with one of our teens who then asked something like "so they make chocolate?"...

Well the dog's name is Nestle. Next, I will be going to steel buildings.

See you there.

The Guys Room

One of my neighbors recently build a guy's room above his garage. Complete with flat panel tv and some comfortable couches. Seems like a great place to watch a game. On top of that he had a mini fridge up there as well. All he needed was some bar stools to make it feel like a b-dubs or something. I'm not a drinker but I have to think that the guys that hang out there have a good time, although I didn't check the fridge's contents so I don't really know. In any case it would be fun to have a cool hangout like that.

Racing

I used to like RC cars when I was younger. I didn't have a very expensive one, but it was still a lot of fun. My friend at the time had a really cool one that could go pretty fast. My uncle was also into that sort of thing at one time. I remember him bringing over his new ones to show us at my grandparents house back in the day. He's mostly into RC airplanes nowadays though. I imagine those take a lot more skill and thus are more rewarding to play with.

Our House

The people that originally built our house decided to use fake wood for a lot of things, icluding the woodwoork, doors, and trim. I'm surprised then that they didn't get faux wood blinds as well. Personally I would have preferred real wood trim etc but not everyone does obviously. The faux wood is cheaper and does look like real wood if you buy quality products. I guess when you are building a house you are focusing on keeping costs down which I can totally understand. It would be hard to shell out the money for real wood trim when you could have an extra bedroom instead.

Tough Subject

I'm not really sure how to approach this topic, but if you need this kind of product or someone you love does, then it is important to research all your options. I admit that I know nothing about these but you can check out this site about disposable underwear. I don't know even what might cause someone to need this but if you do, check it out.

I'm never sure how to write about things like this but this is the kind of thing that if you know someone that needs it you will look and if not feel free to ignore this post.

Bed Rooms

It doesn't seem that our house is going to sell this year. I'm hoping that I'm wrong but it does look like we are going to spend another winter in our house. Given that our baby is due in february, we are going to have some bedroom trouble. Our girls will have to share a room for a while it seems, although there is no way we are getting bunk beds. I would be too worried about them falling out. We will probably either have them share the big bed or put Kerrigan's little bed in there for now. It will just make it all the more necessary that we get moved asap. I just hope we can get moved before Kylie starts school. I really don't want to uproot her to a new school once she gets started.

Check Into Why?

I've never really understood why/how these payday loan places exist. I'm guessing they pray on people who have problems financially to begin with but I don't really know for sure. I'm assuming that they charge a fee of some kind to give people their paychecks ahead of time, and the way I see it, it just puts the customer behind the 8 ball. You get your paycheck a week early, but now you have to wait an extra week to get your next check when the standard time wasn't even enough this pay period. So guess what, your back again the next time. So basically all you've accomplished is getting less money for your paycheck and skewing your pay periods slightly. Doesn't seem like much of a deal to me. Plus, if you have credit cards, why would you ever need this service? That all goes back to my theory that people who already have financial trouble go to these places (can't get a credit card). So to me it kind of seems like an ugly business if I understand it right.

Brown Out

Looks like the circuits are going to Frye again this season. Or at least for half of it. Quinn is still holding out for top 10 money so it looks like Chuck will get another shot this year. I'm hoping he has learned a few things which is typical of a QB after his first season otherwise we can expect the usual incontinence supplies. On the radio just now, an analyst was saying that the Browns look really good at training camp and should be pretty competitive this year. If they go 8-8 I would jump on the couch with happiness (ok maybe not). I'd even be pretty happy with 7-9. Personally though, I think they are going to have a hard time doing better than 6-10 given their division, although they will probably be in a few more games than usual. I just hope that we are finally on the road to respectability.

Opportunity Lost

Well one of the houses that we liked is off the market. It would have been a pretty good investment property as well as a great place to live, but alas, our house still has not sold so there is nothing we can do. It had an apartment in one of the detached garages that we could have rented out and made a lot of money towards our house payment which would have freed up a lot of money for us. Plus it would have been a ready made place for our parents way down the road. On the upside, the other house that we liked is still for sale. Unfortunately though, it's getting late in the year and the housing market is still slow. God could still work things out, but I'm fighting pessimism that it is going to happen this year.
