Strange Stores

In this day of internet proliferation you can specialize in a pretty sparse field and still make money. (as long as you "specialize" in a lot of those at once)

I ran across a store that sold pond supplies the other day and my imagination has already started whirring. Aisle one, pond scum, cat tails, and lilly pads. Aisle two, fish, bull frogs, and crawdads. Aisle three, broken down looking docks, scummy life preservers, and assorted decorative litter.

I'm guessing they sell chemicals and stuff but it isn't hard to imagine what else they could offer. I mean, who with a pond wouldn't want a burned out barrel trash can to sit beside it?

What Ever Happened To?

Ever look around and suddenly notice that something that used to be there isn't there any more? Things like a central vacuum, mobile dishwasher, and bagger lawn mowers just don't seem to exist much anymore. Certainly they aren't gone, but they just don't rear their heads near as often any more.

So what else can you think of that was once a staple that is now hanging out with Dodo's and dinosaurs? It seems easy to forget things like that when they just silently fade away. You wake up one day and suddenly realize that you haven't seen one in years!

Laptop

We have found that we use our laptop a lot more than we use our desktop pc at this point. The reason is mostly architectural. Our PC is in the basement and our laptop isn't. A nice thing, might be for us to have two. Not really a huge need at this point but it may be useful considering that technically ours is owned by our church.

Dell, Sony VAIO, Mac, who knows. Personally I don't really see us buying a new one anytime soon but it's always fun to shop anyway.

Look Ma, No Fuel!

Have you seen those Amish fireplaces? You know, the ones that supposedly heat the room without using any obvious source of fuel? Perhaps I'm misremembering (thanks Roger) the details but it was something like that.

A friend of mine had one of those. It looked pretty cool and they claimed that it worked well, but I can't see myself being in the market. I really want a real fireplace but I don't think that that will happen at my current residence. At least not for a while. maybe someday if we have the money to expand a bit.
